"GEO (10 June 2004) Hamid Mir discussed women's rights with women politicians and MQM's Babar Ghauri. Babar Ghauri took the position that the Family Law Ordinance that empowered women should be done away with because it was based on laws made by the British Raj. The PML lady politician said that the Ordinance was not enforced and that men still did not seek permission of their first wives before remarrying. The MMA lady politician that under Islam the husband was not required to seek permission from his wife before remarrying. She accused women of indulging in polyandry but did not give any instance. Babar Ghauri tried to inform about the professional background of the PML lady but got the details wrong.
Communications minister Babar Ghauri made the most reactionary comment and should be pulled up by the MQM high command. One wasn't sure who he was speaking for. The MMA woman was already speaking against women. Mr Ghauri joined her and then tried to embarrass the only sane person in the discussion by getting personal."

حکومت کے حامی اور متحدہ قومی موومینٹ کے سینیٹر عباس کمیلی نے کہا کہ پیغمبرِ اسلام اور خلفاء نے بھی سربراہ حکومت اور فوج کے سپہ سالار کے دونوں عہدے ایک وقت میں اپنے پاس رکھے تھے لہٰذا صدر جنرل پرویز مشرف کے دو عہدے رکھنے پر کسی کو اعتراض نہیں کرنا چاہیے۔

ان کے بیان پر حزب مخالف کے اراکین نے سخت احتجاج کیا’نو نو، اور ’شیم شیم، کے نعرے بھی لگائے۔ متحدہ مجلس عمل کے سینیٹر مولانا راحت حسین نے عباس کمیلی پر جوکہ ایک ذاکر بھی ہیں، توہیں رسالت کا الزام لگایا۔

عباس کمیلی کی بات پر حکومت کے حامی اراکین ڈیسک بجا کر خوشی کا اظہار کرتے رہے۔ عباس کمیلی نے حزب مخالف کو چیلنج کیا کہ وہ قرآن کی کوئی آیت یا کوئی حدیث پیش کریں جس میں سربراہ حکومت اور سپہ سالار کے دو عہدے ایک شخص کے پاس ہونے کی ممانعت ہو۔

انہوں نے دعویٰ کیا کہ وردی مقدس ہے اور اس کی توہین قرآن کی توہین ہے، وردی کی مخالفت جہاد کی مخالفت ہے۔ عباس کمیلی نے کہا کہ ہر نوجوان کو وردی پہننی چاہئے تاکہ جہاد اور فساد میں فرق رہے۔

20 June 2007:  "Dr Imran Farooq, Convenor of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has questioned whether the State of Pakistan is an Islamic or non Islamic State. He said that today, on 20^th. of June 2007, during the session of the National Assembly, almost all the opposition leader boycotted the Session in protest against forwarding the Reference against Imran Khan by the Speaker of the National Assembly after having proven credible to the Election Commission. He further added that the opposition leaders gave their argument that this is a case of political victimisation against Imran Khan. He further questioned that if it is so; thousands of men and women languishing in jail under Hudood Law must be released forthwith or should have been released as per the argument and the objection of the opposition leaders against the filing of the Reference against Imran Khan and its dispatch to the Election Commission."

1 Dec 2007: KARACHI: Religious scholar and Jamia Binoria administrator Mufti Mohammad Naeem has announced support for the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in the general elections, scheduled for Jan 8, 2008.

He was talking to newsmen accompanied by City Nazim Mustafa Kamal who paid a visit to Jamia Binoria in Site Town on Saturday.
Mufti Naeem said the decision to support MQM candidates in the elections was taken keeping in view the fact that this party was working for the welfare of the common man."

17 Feb 2008: KARACHI: "In what appears to be an election-specific alliance against the Pakistan People’s Party, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Jamiat Ulema Islam, which is contesting the election from the platform of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, have entered into a seat adjustment agreement on four national and five provincial assembly seats in Karachi.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has invited the Taliban to join hands with their fellow countrymen, instead of disassociating themselves from Pakistan.

“I ask the Taliban leaders that this country came into being as a result of great sacrifices. Come and join Pakistanis…do not disassociate yourselves from Pakistan,” he said in a telephonic address at the 27th foundation day of the MQM on Friday.

A non-formal case – ‘katchi’ first information report (FIR) – was lodged against former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza at the Kalakot police station, allegedly for blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet (pbuh) at a press conference in Lyari recently.
The ‘unofficial’ FIR was registered at the Camp Office of Sindh Industries and Commerce Minister Rauf Siddiqui on Saturday. Sources told Pakistan Today that Siddiqui had approached the newly-appointed Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mushtaq Shah, and Deputy Inspector General South Zone Commander Shaukat who asked the minister not to personally visit the police station as Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was in the city.
As soon as the premier left the city, the Kalakot station house officer (SHO) along with the head mohrar and an assistant-sub-inspector (ASI) reached the minister’s office, where a case under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code was lodged. “However, the SHO told Siddiqui that the ‘pakki’ or official FIR would be registered after noting down the commerce minister’s complaint,” the sources said.
Legal experts told Pakistan Today that the FIR registered was ‘katchi’, and the petitioner has to record his statement before the police officials concerned and only after that the SHO would decided of a formal complaint can be registered or not under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Earlier, addressing a press conference at his camp office, the provincial minister said he had approached the District and Sessions Court-V (Central) for registering an FIR against Mirza for his sacrilegious remarks. Quoting a number of incidents in the past in which the whole country stood up against blasphemy such as the Denmark issue, Siddiqui also pointed out a number of television programmes in which the former home minister had compared his moves with the Karbala martyrs.

9 Nov 2011: " Activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday attacked the activists of Imamia Students Organization (ISO) at Malir district of Karachi, when they wanted to collect the sacrificial animal hide from Khoharapar Malir. According to the Shiite News Correspondent, the armed activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in the presence of MQM's MNA from Malir Mr Sajid Ahmed had attacked the activists of ISO by chanting the anti-Shia slogans of (Shia-Kafir and Shia Wajid-ul-Qatal hain) and brutally tortured the five activists of ISO in the various areas of Malir. They also threatened the ISO activists to kill them like the other Shia Muslims in target killing. Eye witnesses said that the MQM's activists of Malir Sector Unit 96 and 97 Wahabi-Nasabi activists Farooq, Imtiaz and other were openly shows the ammunition and chanting the slogans against the ISO activists at Malir in the presence of MNA Sajid Ahmed. The six activists of ISO were critically injured in the attack of MQM's Wahabi terrorists including Mukhtar, Haider, Hussain, Mukhtar and others. It may be noted here that the MQM raise the slogan of Muslim brotherhood and  Shia-Sunni Unity in Karachi and Hyderabad in early 80's but the recent anti-Shia activities of MQM were exposed the anti-Shia objectives of the MQM.  The sources closed to the MQM's circles said that the several sectors of MQM including Oragni Tow, Qasba Colony, Nazimabad, Malir (Unit 96 & 97) and some other factions of the party were involved in the anti-Shia activities in Karachi and they intentionally corner the Shia office bearers and legislators of MQM to fulfill their anti-Shia agenda."

Feb 3, 2012: KARACHI: An application filed by Sindh Industries Minister Abdul Rauf Siddiqui against former home minister Zulfiqar Mirza for proceedings under the blasphemy law was dismissed here on Thursday by an additional district and sessions judge.
The court held in its order that Rauf Siddiqui has also filed an identical application before the Sindh High Court, which is pending adjudication and hence this application is not maintainable.
In his complaint, Siddiqui maintained that Zulfiqar Mirza had during his interviews with different television channels uttered words which were allegedly blasphemous and thus he must be booked and tried for making them.

Maulana Tanveer-ul-Haq Thanvi was appointed president of the Muttahida Bain-ul-Muslimeen Forum and four Ulema from different schools of thought were made its senior vice presidents on Thursday.

Some of the newly appointed office-bearers addressed the first press conference of the forum at the press club here on Thursday. 

The forum formed a 29-member committee comprising a president, four senior vice presidents, 16 vice presidents, a general secretary, a coordination secretary and six members of the forum. 

Maulana Thanvi announced the names of the committee’s senior vice presidents. They are Ameer Abdullah Farooqui, Jaffaria Alliance chief Allama Abbas Kumaili, Allama Hafiz Qari Jameel Rathore, and Hafiz Mohammad Salfi.

While 16 of the vice presidents belonging to different schools of thought from across the country have been given their tasks, six members of the executive council will perform their duties for the Muttahida Bain-ul-Muslimeen under the banner of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

Moulana Thanvi said the organisation aimed to defuse sectarian strife and bring people belonging to different schools of thought closer as the latest surge in sectarian killings in the city and other parts of the country had created panic among the clerics.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain has given a platform to the united forum to rid the country of bloodshed. He is of the view that under a conspiracy Shia-Sunni rift was being created, which will prove harmful for the state.

“Someone had to take the lead and it was MQM chief Altaf Hussain who facilitated the formation of this joint forum,” Maulana Thanvi said.

Allama Abbas Kumaili, senior vice president of the forum, while condemning sectarian killings, said any Muslim killing his brother was out of religion, while Maulana Thanvi said no hate material should be used against any sect and any person involved in this heinous crime would have to be accountable to the people. 

In reply to a question, he said the committee members would contact people, senior officials and others to spread the message of love, a message that was given by “our last Prophet (PBUH)”.

Maulana Thanvi said that “we were forced to take to the streets” as continuous killings of innocent people and the ongoing wave of sectarianism in the country caused great concerns among the religious scholars. 

He said demonstrations would be staged across the country to convey the message that any conspiracy against Islam and Pakistan would be thwarted.

Later, these Ulema joined hands with the clerics who were demonstrating outside the press club. The supporters were carrying Paksitani flags and condemning target killings of Shia and Sunni leaders.

Chairman of Pakistan Ulema Council Allama Tahir Ashrafi has said that certain powers want to create a law and order situation in Karachi and erode the mandate of the MQM one way or another. “I say to these forces to adopt the path of dialogues as the country needs love and not hatred.”He said this while talking to the journalists at MQM Head Office Nine Zero after meeting with the Co-ordination Committee.
Hailing the statement of Mr Altaf Hussain, the founder and leader of the MQM, regarding the establishing of the system of the Pious Caliphs in Pakistan, Allama Ashrafi said that the MQM and the Ulema Council would make concerted effort for the just and equitable system in the country. Referring to the discussion of Mr Hussain with Dr Tahirul Qadri on this subject, Allama Ashrafi said, “We would go with Altaf Hussain with whomsoever he would go for attaining this objective.”

مختلف مکاتب فکر کے علمائے کرام نے خورشید شاہ کی جانب سے لفظ مہاجر کی توہین کی شدید الفاظ مذمت کی ہے اور اس بات پر اتفاق کرتے ہوئے اعلان کیا کہ قرآن و سنت کی روشنی میں لفظ مہاجر کی بے حرمتی پر فتویٰ جاری کیاجائے گا ، اس کے خلاف احتجاجی پروگرام ترتیب دیئے جائیں گے اور بھوک ہڑتال کی جائے گی ۔ ان خیالات کااظہار علمائے کرام نے جمعرات کی شب لال قلعہ گراؤنڈ عزیز آباد میں منعقدہ اجتماع میں جناب الطا ف حسین سے ٹیلی فون پر گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کیا ۔ معروف عالم دین عون محمد نقوی نے جناب الطاف حسین سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ خورشید شاہ اپنے آپ کو سید کہتا ہے اس نے لفظ مہاجر کی توہین کی ہے ، اسی طرح سے اللہ نے حضرات ابراہیم کیلئے لفظ شیعہ کا ستعمال کیا ،لفظ شیعہ کے ساتھ شیعہ کافر لگایا جاتا ہے اسی طرح سے لفظ مہاجر،ہم علماء ابھی لفظ مہاجر کی توہین پر ایم اے جناح روڈ پر دھرنا دینے اور بھوک ہڑتال کرنے کو تیار ہیں ۔ علامہ ڈاکٹر جمیل راٹھو ر نے جناب الطا ف حسین سے گفتگو کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ جو جھوٹے مقدمے جو آپ کے خلاف بنائے گئے تھے وہ اپنی موت آپ مرگئے جس پر میں مبارکباد پیش کرتا ہوں ۔ انہوں نے کہاکہ ایک لیڈر نے لفظ مہاجر کو گالی دی تو یقیناًوہ مہاجر قوم کو بھی گالی دے رہا تھا ،لفظ مہاجر کو بھی گالی دے رہا تھا اگر وہ مہاجر لفظ کو گالی دے رہا تھا تو وہ قرآن کا میڈیا پر ببانگ دہل انکار کررہا تھا اس لئے کہ قرآن نے مہاجرین کو اولین قرار دیا اور کہا کہ ’’ آج میرے گھر بیت اللہ کو چھوڑ کر جو مہاجر بن گئے ہیں اللہ نے ان سے اجر کاوعدہ کیا ۔

Oct 24, 2014: "KARACHI: A sessions court on Thursday issued notices to the police on an application seeking the registration of a case under the blasphemy law against Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah till Oct 28.
Dr Laila Parveen of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement along with eight other applicants through their counsel moved the application under Section 22-A of the criminal procedure code and contended that on Oct 17 during his visit to Bagh-i-Jinnah, near the mausoleum of the Quaid-i-Azam, Mr Shah stated that the word ‘Muhajir’ was an expletive.
They argued that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), most prophets, Khulfa-i-Rashideen and Sahaba-i-Karam had migrated from one city to another while the word ‘Muhajir’ was cited with great respect in the Quran"

He said MQM is a liberal and enlightened political party but not guiding the line of atheism and always stands against any blasphemous attempt. He said that if such comment would have been made by any non-Muslim then the entire population would be incinerated and the country’s history was full with such incidents.

KARACHI: Renowned religious scholars including Moulana Asad Deobandi and Mufti Shamim on Tuesday announced to lend their support to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in connection with NA-246 by-polls.

Addressing a press conference here at MQM’s headquarters, Ittehad-e-Bain-ul Muslimeen leader Mufti Shamim said Shia-Sunni clashes came to an end in Karachi since the formation of MQM, attributing its credit to the party chief Altaf Hussain.

“Jamat-e-Islami (JI) introduced the Jehadi culture and Imran Khan tried to stop the action against the Taliban”, he said, adding the PTI leader wants Karachi and not the Karachiites.

Mufti Shamim further said MQM was the only party to raise voice against the ‘murder’ of Tariq Mehboob.

January 15, 2016:  "ISLAMABAD: The proceedings of the National Assembly were preceded by a ruckus over the question of religiosity, with parliamentarians reduced to questioning each other over matters of faith, on Thursday. The architect of the uproar was PML-N MNA from Mansehra, retired Captain Mohammad Safdar, who is also the son-in-law of Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif.
It all started when, at the outset of the session, proceedings opened with verses from the Holy Quran and the recitation of a naat. This has been a routine after the rules of procedure and conduct of business were amended last month. PkMAP chief Mehmood Achakzai was the first to speak after the recitation and, obviously unaware of the change in the rules, asked when the change had been made.
Then, all hell broke loose as members from both sides of the aisle – led by MNAs from the ruling PML-N and the MQM – descended upon the PkMAP leader and asked him to apologise for questioning the recitation and his ignorance of the rules."

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter president Barrister Saif Ali Khan announced his personal support to the notorious terrorist of banned Deobandi outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba (ASWJ) Masroor Nawaz Jhangvi in the by-election to Punjab from Jhang district constituency PP-78.
Barrister Khan also defended the ideology of hatred, bigotry, intolerance and violent terrorism in the guise of sectarian rights being practiced by banned Sipah-e-Sahaba (ASWJ) and its sister-wing banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
On the other hand, Salman Mujahid Baloch, a parliamentarian belonging to the MQM ridiculed the ruling PMLN and its federal and Punjab governments for not taking action against the proscribed ASWJ’s candidate despite the fact they were banned. 
MQM’s founder and Pakistan-based leaders had been claiming the credit for sectarian unity and cohesion in Karachi and never officially sided with the takfiris as a party policy even though there were individuals who did so against the MQM’s stated policy.

1 Dec 2016:  Waseem Akhtar, Mayor of Karachi has met with Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, chief of Karachi chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) as he paid to visit to Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq on Thursday.

While talking to the media afterwards, Akhtar responded to a question about possibility of coalition of MQM and JI for elections by saying that he wished that happens.

After being neglected for long, the religious scholars, Ulema and Pesh Imams saw a silver lining when a bill was introduced in the National Assembly on Tuesday seeking their financial welfare. The bill was moved by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) legislator Kishwar Zehra and sent to the relevant standing committee. The bill extends to Islamabad Capital Territory and also seeks establishment of religious scholars, Ulemas and Pesh Imams Welfare Board. Under the objective and reasons for introducing this bill the mover stated, religious scholars, Ulema and the Pesh Imams are the persons of dignity and respect as they serve the cause of Islam through their concerted efforts in different ways. However, since the establishment of Pakistan, no steps have been taken for the organisation and strengthening of fraternity of religious scholars, Ulema and Pesh Imams. They are devoting their whole life for upholding principles and beliefs of Islam, the bill stated.

 شیعہ علماء کونسل صوبہ سندھ و کراچی ڈویژن کی جانب سے علامہ ساجد نقوی کی اپیل پر القدس ریلی کراچی میں نکا لی گئی جس میں بڑی تعداد میں علماء کرام و عوام نے شرکت کی اسریلی کے اختتام پر آزادی بیت المقدس کے حوالےسے جلسہ منعقد ہوا جس میں علماء کرام،مختلف سیاسی و سماجی تنظیموں کے رہنماوٗں،ملی یکجہتی کونسل پاکستان کے رہنماوٗں سمیت مختلف شعبہ ہائے زندگی سے تعلق رکھنے والے افراد نے شرکت کی ۔

تبت سینٹر سے پریس کلب تک نکالی گئی جس میں ہزاروں افراد نے شرکت کی، ریلی میں پاکستان تحریک انصاف کے علی زیدی، جماعت اسلامی کے اسد اللہ بھٹو، ایم کیو ایم کے سینیٹر قمر عباس سمیت علامہ شہنشا ہ حسین نقوی، علامہ ناظر تقوی، شبر رضا سمیت دیگر سیاسی و مذہبی رہنماوں نے شرکت کی۔
